About HuntVantage
HuntVantage is a free tool that grades the hunting potential of any spot on the map from 0 to 100, with per-species ratings, in a single click. It’s built to help hunters scout new ground — especially public land — before they ever leave the truck.
How it works
Click a point on the satellite map and HuntVantage analyzes the surrounding habitat across five factors — cover, water, food, hunting pressure, and habitat diversity — then blends them into an overall score and individual ratings for species like elk, deer, bear, and waterfowl. It reads the land the way you would when scouting: looking for the mix of security cover, water, and feed that holds game, away from roads and development.
Where the data comes from
HuntVantage is built on publicly available geographic data, primarily OpenStreetMap land-cover and terrain features, shown over satellite imagery. It also credits enclosing public land — national forests, wilderness areas, and wildlife areas — toward a location’s cover and habitat score.
Who it’s for
It’s for do-it-yourself hunters who want to cover more ground, faster — comparing spots from home, finding overlooked pockets of public land, and deciding where a boots-on-the-ground trip is worth it. Our in-depth regional hunting guides pair the tool with local knowledge for specific areas.
An honest limitation
HuntVantage is a starting point, not a substitute for scouting. A score reflects habitat quality from map data — it can’t see this year’s food, recent logging, game movement, or, most importantly, where hunting is legal. Always confirm seasons, boundaries, and regulations with your state wildlife agency before you hunt. Map coverage is currently strongest in Washington and expanding.
